Exosomes

With 30 years of expertise, we specialize in developing in vitro and cell-based assays that are essential for drug discovery and development. Our services include:

  • Unmatched quality
  • Prompt timelines
  • Cost-effective solutions
  • Exceptional communication

MarinBio assists you throughout the drug development process, including IND/BLA applications, commercialization, and pharmacokinetics (PK).

We engage directly with the FDA and work closely with our clients to achieve their goals.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane-bound vesicles (50-1000 nm) released by all living cells into the extracellular space.  Exosomes form inside the cell and fuse with the cell membrane to get released.  Microvesicles form near the cell exterior, are composed of cytoplasmic components, and are released by.plasma membrane budding. They contain diverse molecules such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids.  In addition, apoptotic bodies (500-2000 nm) are released from dying cells during apoptosis.

Exosomes and other EVs have gained attention in drug discovery and delivery due to their unique properties. Key applications include:

  • Drug Delivery Systems: Targeted delivery of drugs, genes, or small molecules; crossing biological barriers like the cell surface and blood-brain barrier.
  • Biomarkers for Disease Diagnosis: Early detection and non-invasive monitoring of diseases using exosome-specific biomarkers.
  • Therapeutic Applications: Promoting tissue regeneration in regenerative medicine; modulating immune responses in immunotherapy.
  • Drug Resistance: Understanding and overcoming mechanisms of drug resistance in diseases like cancer.

Our Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) & Exosomes Service Include:

Molecular Characterization

  • Western Blotting: Detects specific protein markers such as CD9 and CD63 that affect such processes

of platelet aggregation, muscle cell fusion, and egg-sperm fusion, and HSP70 that facilitates the proper

folding of newly translated and misfolded proteins

  • Flow Cytometry: Analyzes the surface markers of intact exosomes, allowing for phenotyping..
  • ELISA: Quantifies specific exosomal proteins using antibody-based detection.
  • PCR/RT-PCR: Analyzes the RNA and DNA content of exosomes.

Cell-Based Assays

     Interaction with Target Cells

  • Uptake Assays: Measures the internalization of labeled exosomes by recipient cells using

fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry.

  • Reporter Gene Assays: Uses reporter genes to assess the functional delivery of genetic material

by exosomes to target cells.

  • Migration and Invasion Assays: Evaluates the effect of exosomes on the migratory and invasive

properties of cancer cells.

     Potency Assays

  • Enzymatic-Based Assays: Measures the enzymatic activity within exosomes to predict their bioactivity

and integrity.

  • Immunomodulation Assays: Evaluates the ability of exosomes to modulate immune responses, such as

 inhibiting T-cell proliferation.

  • Cell Viability and Proliferation Assays: Assesses the effect of exosomes on the viability and proliferation

of target cells.

Drug Delivery Assays

  • Drug Loading Efficiency Assays: Quantifies the amount of therapeutic cargo loaded into exosomes using

techniques like fluorescence labeling.

  • Drug Release Kinetics Assays: Measures the release profile of the therapeutic cargo from exosomes over time.
