Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane-bound vesicles (50-1000 nm) released by all living cells into the extracellular space.  Exosomes form inside the cell and fuse with the cell membrane to get released.  Microvesicles form near the cell exterior, are composed of cytoplasmic components, and are released by.plasma membrane budding. They contain diverse molecules such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids.  In addition, apoptotic bodies (500-2000 nm) are released from dying cells during apoptosis.
