Molecular Biology looks at the molecular mechanisms behind processes such as cell replication and function. Simplified, it studies how genes are transcribed into RNA, how RNA is translated into protein, and control pathways. Commonly used techniques include gene cloning to identify and replicate individual genes and Polymerase Chain Reaction PCR to measure specific genes or message RNA. 

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms, unicellular (single-celled) and multicellular. In microbiology, the areas of antibiotics and vaccination are of particular interest. The use of bacteria as tools for analysis of biological mechanisms and of production of drugs is also important.
